Illustration is the whole story

Israel Museum

The hyena disguised as a princess, the celebrated animal doctor easing all pain and suffering, Saint Nino and the hardships she endured on the way to the Caucasus, two children squabbling over one doll, and even one true story that sounds like fiction, about an unforgettable performance by a famous Israeli singer in a refugee camp in Cyprus. These are the heroes of the illustrated books whose creators have won the 2018 Israel Museum Children’s Book Illustration Award.
A number of the winning book illustrations will be on display in the exhibition, together with letters illustrated by the artists especially for this exhibition.
The opening event of the exhibition will be held on July 6, at 10:30 am, in the Museum’s Illustration Library and Youth Wing Auditorium, including a ceremony at which the winners will be awarded the prizes.
The program includes a lecture by the 2018 prizewinner Nino Binashvilli, who illustrated and wrote the graphic novella “On the Banks of the Black Sea”, and, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Illustration Award, a special tribute to the winners of the 1978 Illustration Award: Ora Eitan, Alona Frankel, Danny Karman, Yossi Aboulafia, Ruth Tsarfati, and Ora Eyal.
